Hello everyone and welcome back to my spot on Al Gore‘s pet project.

There has been a lot of noise about Miley Cyrus recently, and I just had to say a few words about the topic. There were open letters, open replies to these and ALL of them focused on Miley Cyrus. So the first thing I had to say is – Mission Accomplished.

I’ll ask and answer a few questions to get us started:

1. Is Miley Cyrus behaving as a woman in her position should? No.

2. Would I like it if my daughter do that? HELL no.

3. Is Miley Cyrus promoting and empowering women? Eh, no.

4. What in god’s name IS Miley doing? I will try to answer this on this very post.

So let’s see. There was the Infamous Twerk. Then there were some almost Nude Pictures. and a lot of tongue hanging out of Miley’s mouth. For shame Miley, for shame. tsk tsk tsk.

Madonna did everything in the book before. In fact, she’s added new chapters to it. Is there one person alive who doesn’t know what the queen of pop look like under the 2 inches of whatever she’s wearing these days? Cher trotted in her undies at the age of 50, Rihanna‘s twitter feed supplies endless materials for our fantasies, Pamela Anderson… well what didn’t she do?

Now, we all ask our kids indignantly “If everyone would jump off a roof, would you do it?” and the answer is of course – No. Because we’d be dead.

However, do you know what would happen to Miley if she’d “jump off the roof”? She’d get more attention, sell more crappy records and in general will be the focus of as many media outlets as she could hope to.

Because this is the world we live in. A world where women in entertainment are still judged by appearance rather than talent. And please don’t try to pretend it’s not the case. For every Helen Mirren (who’s also sexy as they come by the way) there are millions of Beyoncés (Who’s actually pretty talented) and Madonnas. Can anyone tell me with a straight face that Madonna’s vocal abilities exceed those of Kate Bush? Of course not. However Madonna had a far greater success, due to being a far more visual act. Add to that “controversy” and you get the idea.

Women in entertainment, and specifically singers resort in many cases to “shock value” to “one up” each other. And guess what, the men driven business encourages them to do so.

And once they follow this cue’ we all sit high and mighty and judge them.

Do I hope that women singers use their god given talent and entertain me with their songs? absolutely.

Do I think this is going to change anytime soon? Fogedaboudit…

One last note: We seem to be putting aside all the people who are famous for… being famous… (e.g. Kardashians, Paris Hilton etc.). At the very least, Miley is actually doing something. Good, bad, up to you, but she does sing… just sayin’…

So what do you think?
